How African Americans participated in the war: Soon The Union began to include African Americans in army starting with 54th mass who led assault on fort Wagner outside of Charleston
Describe Life in North during War: Loss of cotton hurt northern textile industry
Describe Life in South During War:Economic resources became unreachable and Union blockade forced south to rely on own farms and factories which had trouble supplying military and population

Describe how Grant takes it to Lee: Grant took control of western army and battles lee at wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. These battles caused major losses on both sides
Describe Sherman’s March to the Sea: Confeds could not stop Sherman who looted, pillaged, and set fire to everything in his path including burning Atlanta before marching to savannah
Describe the Battle of Petersburg: Grant employs siege strategy at Petersburg and after several weeks of fighting Lee ordered retreat of petersburg
Describe Lee’s surrender: On April 9, 1865 Lee Officially surrenders, but takes till June to get other scattered forces to surrender.

The south didnt have much of a strategy, they just rushed in and tried the frontal assault which didnt work

a battle at that time was chaotic and frustrating, anyday could of been your day to die. especially out there on a battle field in front of thousands of soldiers marching towards you

2.Lee's men run into fed cavarly to northwest of gettysburg, feds call for support which is now run by george meade.
3.Lee orders general longstreet to attack from the south end of battle line, which longstreet fails to succeed
4.Lee again tried one more time attacking in the morning with a major cannon attack meant to break union troops, he then orders a full frontal assault on cementary ridge.
5.lincoln came and gave a speech for like 3 min. honoring the dead

- the attack was unexpected and they werent prepared either and also it was at night!!!
